Treatment

Background Information:
In our group we decided we was going to create a music video for a song by the famous Hip Hop rapper, Tupac. We had a hard decision between two of his songs but we came to a final decision that we were going to create a video for the song 'Only God Can Judge Me'. Growing up me, Tajay and Celia all listened to Hip Hop music in particular artists such as Eazy E, Notorious BIG etc. Recently the hit film 'Straight Outta Compton' has just come out and its all about how NWA and Ruthless Records started, it focused on how the music was created and the problems that occurred during the lifestyle of a HipHop/Rapper back in the 90's. This had a big influence on us, in picking a song within the same genre as we liked the style in which the music video was created and more importantly the song itself. Although most of our ideas have come from previous music videos and a 90's film, we decided we were going to female characters in the music video, to give our music video a plot twist.

Summary Of The Narrative:
Our initial idea for our music video was to have a young female as the main character who has a interesting story line whilst '2pac' narrates her life. Our story line consists of a young woman who grows up on a estate and friends 'snake' her a which results in her being shot in a drive by shooting. This converges with the lyrics as it states 'i couldn't trust my friends they was a bunch of dirty rats' this to us states that her friends betrayed her. The song also includes a heartbeat which increases during on part of the song, which we are going to use as our hospital scene when our main character has a flashback whilst shes 'dying'. instead of us showing the shooting we are going to use a fast cutting rate of shots such as a church, grave stone etc, as they all symbolize death.

Music Videos That Inspired Us:
Most of our inspiration came from music videos by 2pac and Eazy E. The song that inspired us by 2Pac was 'Dear Mama'. Dear Mama inspired us as it gave us the idea to have a female playing 2Pac as he looked up to his mum as if his mum was his queen, we wanted to incorporate the importance of females and how much young black women go through especially growing up in a deprived area. The song that inspired us by Eazy E was 'Boyz n tha hood'. This inspired us as it uses lots of typical 90's Hip Hop music video camera shots and costume. There are lots of panning shots while Eazy E is rapping to the camera, the panning shot shows Eazy walking down what seems to be his 'hood', this gives his fans an insight into his lifestyle and how he grew up, the camera shots are also at low angles and its shows Eazy is powerful as us as the audience are looking up to him. Aswell as this it shows alot of 90's fashionable clothing which includes acid/ washed-out high waist mom jeans, for women, circle frame glasses, bomber jackets and lots of big gold chains.

Casting / Actors, Props, location(s):
In our music video we would ideally like to have a group of young females, specifically 2-3 girls to make up which looks like a 'clique'. Our actresses will hopefully age from 17-20 years old. We are going to have up to five locations in which will represent a different side in the young females life. Our locations include Leake Street tunnel in Waterloo and Brick Lane in Algate East, both these locations are key in showing that we have researched typical Hip Hop locations, these locations converge with our music video as the both are covered in bright, bold and unique graffiti, which will give our music video an 'urban' look. Our 3rd location will be on a typical council estate, this is where most British rap/hip hop artists grew up and this could show that we are incorporating the idea of living on a 'block' in which all your 'homies' live too, which is full of crime, drugs and gang culture. Our 4th location will be a in the studio in front of green screen in which we can manipulate the background. Our last location will be of a church in which we are going to use for our fast cutting rate of many different aspects inside and outside a church.
Ethical Considerations and Audience:
Our music video will have some ethical issues, such as the use of fake drugs, and it does show some violence, however our video is aimed at an older teen audience, therefore our video will not be viewed to young children. Our video will also include a warning in the beginning, which will state that our video is not suitable for certain ages etc.

Channel for Broadcast:
Our music video will be available on all our YouTube channels, as it will hopefully get more views this way, it will also be promoted on all of our social media sites, such as: Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
